At our Board meeting today, we appointed Barry Biermann to the position of County Fire Chief. Per requirements of our agreement with CalFire (California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, Chief Biermann will remain an employee of CalFire but he will be dedicated to the Napa County Fire Chief position. He currently serves as a Battalion Chief assigned to the Napa County Fire Department.
Chief Biermann was raised in Napa, attended Vintage High School, and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from Chico State University. He began his fire career as a volunteer with the Soda Canyon Volunteer Fire Company and later the North Chico Company 42. He worked as a seasonal Firefighter and Fire Engineer for the Butte County Unit of CalFire before transferring to the Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit of CalFire. He has worked at stations and battalions in Napa County since 1998. Chief Biermann and his wife Betsy have two sons, Brandon and Blake.
“Napa is a very special place. Our County Fire Department is a combination Department that relies on both career and volunteer firefighters to serve the citizens and visitors of Napa County. I look forward to serving as the Fire Chief and am dedicated to providing excellent service to the community and county I grew up in,” says Chief Biermann.
Chief Biermann will start in his new job on Monday, October 27, 2014.
